Anthropic has made no acquisition of Notion. No official announcement, no regulatory filing, no confirmation from either company. Yet the speculation was widespread enough for analysts to publish predictions about it.
Established fact: no acquisition
The hypothesis rested on financial logic: Anthropic, valued at 380 billion dollars in February 2026, could have absorbed Notion (around 11 billion) for less than 3% of its capitalisation, making the deal financially trivial at a ratio of 35 to 1.
What does exist: a deep technical partnership
Notion has integrated the Claude models for assisted writing, semantic search, automated agents and AI meeting notes. More significant still, Notion has launched a server following the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard developed by Anthropic.
That protocol lets AI assistants interact with Notion workspaces in real time. Compatible with Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code and ChatGPT, it gives AI agents read and write access to Notion pages.
Anthropic's actual acquisitions
Anthropic has made a single acquisition: Bun, a high-performance JavaScript runtime, in early December 2025. The aim: strengthening Claude Code, which generates 2.5 billion dollars in annualised revenue. That purchase shows where Anthropic puts its priority: software development infrastructure rather than productivity tools.
Vertical concentration or open ecosystem?
Acquisition means silo. When a model vendor buys a tool, it creates dependency. If Anthropic owned Notion, would competitors (Gemini, GPT, Mistral) keep equivalent access?
The alternative: an ecosystem of open standards. MCP embodies that model. Anthropic develops the protocol, Notion implements a server, and any integrator can connect them with no lock-in.
At AS3P, BrainDup uses Claude for development and then "pulls the plug": the finished product runs on the client's infrastructure with the models they choose. The real question is no longer "will Anthropic buy Notion?" but "how do I connect my tools to AI intelligently without becoming dependent on it?"
